Victorians found tea
refreshments to be useful for various
entertainments – high tea (more a light supper),
family tea, nursery tea, bridge teas, tennis teas,
wedding teas, and tea dances.
| 1 ½ cups white
flour
|
1
cup nuts, chopped |
| 5 teaspoons baking
powder
|
1
cup dates, chopped |
| 1 ½ teaspoons
salt
|
½
cup brown sugar |
| ¼ teaspoon
soda
|
1
½ cups milk |
|
1 ½ cups
whole-wheat flour
|
¼
cup molasses |
Combine the dry
ingredients. Stir in milk and molasses, and spoon
into a greased loaf pan. Bake at 375 degrees for
about an hour. To serve at teatime, slice and then
cut each slice in half (or bake two mini-loaves,
reducing oven time). Delicious spread with cream
cheese.
